Community Partnerships

First English Lutheran Church contributes to many charities within our community with funds and physical collections.  We are the little church who gives from the heart.

Our pew-based collections, First Hand Giving, switches between internal church needs, such as snow removal, and external charities. We have given monetary offerings to worthy local programs: St Margaret’s House, Reins of Life, M.A.C. Food Pantry, Pet Refuge, Safe Haven Baby Boxes, Fountainview Nursing Center, and Judge Miller’s Homeless Vet Center, among others.

We also go further by collecting physical donations for charities:  Monthly food collections for M.A.C. Food Pantry, yearly collections for St. Margaret’s House, or Broadway Christian Parish and Bingo prizes for Fountainview Nursing Home.

Our Handmade Ministry Team works with yarn to create shawls, lap blankets, hats and scarves. Those are then given to people in distress, or those in joy with a new baby. We give shawls and lap blankets to Memorial Breast Care Center and the Memorial Hospital Chaplin Service. The hats and scarves go to other organizations such as the Youth Services Bureau, St Margaret’s House, Dismas House, and Miller’s Homeless Vet Center.

One of our largest yearly projects is the Annual Rummage Sale. This sale has been ongoing for over 25 years and is conducted by our Women’s organization, Women of the ELCA.  Net profits from this project are distributed to local, national and worldwide programs such as Lutheran World Relief, Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services, Lutheran Disaster Response, God’s Work, Our Hands Sunday, Lutheran Outdoor Ministry along with local charities listed above.
